Welcome to your Guide to Pregnancy – Week 2.
Although your still are not technically pregnant, your body is getting ready to perform it’s monthly routine of preparing for a pregnancy. Your uterus is developing thick, nutrient-rich lining in anticipation of a fertilized egg. Your ovaries are preparing to release a ripened egg. Some women are actually able to feel ovulation as well as notice a slight vaginal discharge.
Fertilization of the egg, in most women, will be of opportunity near the end of this week! At the end of this week you will be at the middle of the menstrual cycle (assuming you have a 28 day cycle) and you will have a 1-2 day hour window of opportunity to conceive.
This is the window of time you want to turn the lights down low and get in the mood with your significant other (the fun part!). After your partner ejaculates, millions of sperm travel to the fallopian tube looking to fertilize the egg. If you ovulate on day 14 (14 days past the first day of your last period) the egg is only viable for 12-24 hours. However, sperm can live for 24-48 hours in the female’s body. Sexual intercourse for conceiving should take place on day 12, 13, or 14 (or all three days!) of your menstrual cycle to effectively penetrate the egg.
If the sperm has penetrated the egg, fertilization has taken place and this means you are pregnant. Some women claim they have a sense when fertilization has taken place, for the rest of us, you most likely will not feel anything yet or notice any changes in the body.
Continue to take good care of yourself. Proceed with your doctor’s advice on trying to conceive, eat a well-balanced diet, and steer clear of drugs, alcohol and smoking. Even if you do not exercise on a regular basis, there is no better time to start. Exercise is an excellent way to prep your body for pregnancy and labor. Studies show that women in good physical health have easier and shorter labors than women who are not in as good of health.

My 21 yearold sister REFUSES to talk to me?
Because I got pregnant before she did. I think its such a stupid reason. My pregnancy wasn’t planned, which she claims it was…(She lives in New York; aka the other side of the country..(i live in California) AND she recently moved back to be with family.) Now shes living with us for a Little while, before she moves to a condo in the summer. Im due in June (June 16th). And I have enough stress with a few friends.
Ive had a job since i was 14, and i had no plan to get pregnant, I just have a-lot of money saved. We went to a family meeting session in L.A earlier in the week, and she STILL will NOT talk to me, i wrote her a 4 page paper on how i didn’t not plan my pregnancy, I also made her a little gift basket and everything. Im just about to give up on it, but I want her to be apart of her Nieces life. What else could/can I do?

I am 19 weeks pregnant and having so much fun guessing the gender of my sencond child using old wives tales. And was wondering if anyother of you moms did the same thing. We find out in a couple of weeks what he or she is so it kind of helps to pass the time. Hi! Congrats on the baby! I used the chinese chart and it said I was having a boy. I was carrying high, which indicated a girl. I craved all kinds of fruit, but mostly citrus, which also indicated a girl. I also put on weight all over, which some said was indicative of a boy. I found out during week 20 that I was having a girl. So, I guess some worked and some didn’t. Oh, her heartrate had always been around 160 up to that point, which I had heard meant I was having a boy. Didn’t try any other wives tales. My cousin swears by the Drano test. She said you pee into a cup that contains granulated drano, not the liquid kind. If it bubbles or fizzes it’s a boy. If it does nothing it’s a girl. I didn’t try it, but she swears it worked for her. Generally ultrasounds are regarded as safe…but they are diagnostic tools, and not novelty. If your MD recommends this, just discuss the benefits vs the risks of the ultrasounds.
Ultrasound used for imaging generally doesn’t cause the heat buildup that ultrasound for physical therapy/rehab causes…but there is some heat generated.
There are some studies out there to show risk with frequent ultrasounds, but it is considered to be very safe by most physicians….just be careful and only do what you need to keep your baby and you safe and healthy, and unless you have some huge risk factor, every 10 days seems excessive.

Pregnancy in video games – your opinions!?
I read an article yesterday about pregnancy in video games. It was interesting to see how the games they mentioned all interrupt pregnancy differently. By far, the Sims2 has showcased pregnancy the best, while others, like Harvest Moon, avoid the morning sickness and the growing ‘bump’, and everything else that comes with being a mother-to-be.
I do understand that Harvest Moon is aimed at younger people, compared to the Sims 2, and so that’s why the whole pregnant stage of your characters is barely seen.
So, my questions are..
1) What are your views on pregnancy in video games?
2) Have you ever experienced pregnancy in a game, and what did you think of it?
